Pre – departure / Pre – arrival guidelines for international travellers to Mumbai

Whether you are traveling from the US or other countries, the rules remain the same. You need to have an RT-PCR test within 72 hours before the scheduled boarding of your flight. You also need to fill out a self – declaration form, upload the vaccine certificate as well as the negative RT-PCR test report on Air Suvidha. And you also need to give a declaration that ascertains the authenticity of the COVID test report, regardless of your country of residence, age or travel origins.

The revised rules, announced on November 12, 2022 stated that children under 5 years of age need not take an RT-PCR test prior to their travel to India. If they do not have the symptoms, they do not have to take a test on their arrival as well. If they do have the symptoms in the thermal screening for COVID in any entry airport in India such as Mumbai, Pune, Delhi, etc., they will need to undergo a COVID PCR test immediately.

Rules and guidelines for international travellers to Mumbai from countries at risk

For international travellers from high risk countries of COVID such as Botswana, Zimbabwe, South Africa, etc., the rules state that they need to undergo a 7 day institutional quarantine after an RT-PCR test after their arrival in Mumbai.

This was amend on December 2, 2022. The Maharashtra’s regulations stated that the travellers arriving from low risk countries, including the UK and other European nations, New Zealand, Israel, Brazil, Hong Kong, Mauritius, and China, do not need to undergo institutional quarantine anymore.

The authorities stated that they would consider travelers from a low-risk country, who had visited any high-risk country 15 days before arriving in Maharashtra, as high-risk arrivals. They would undergo a 7-day institutional quarantine after an RT-PCR test.

Mumbai Airport will allow travelers from low-risk countries with no travel history to high-risk countries to exit or take a domestic flight within or outside Maharashtra. However, they must have a negative RT-PCR test result from a test done post-arrival, and they need to pre-book their RT-PCR test to be taken after arriving in Mumbai.
