The Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS), India’s aviation security authority, has proposed installing computer tomography scanners at airports. Passengers onboarding to international flights from India would be able to retain electronic gadgets in their hand luggage while traveling through security using these scanners.
The idea for these scanners, which would offer a 3D picture of the items in hand luggage, originated from BCAS, which is a part of the civil aviation ministry. Jaideep Prasad, Joint Director General of BCAS, announced the suggestion on Wednesday.

According to a report, Jaideep Prasad told PTI that “travelers would not need to take out their electronic gadgets from hand luggage before passing them through the scanner.”
Currently, airport scanners only provide a 2D representation of the items inside hand luggage. However, the installation of new scanners based on computer tomography technology is intended to improve the accuracy and speed of airport security checks.
In recent weeks, there have been concerns about airport congestion and extended wait times, especially in the nation’s capital. Nevertheless, the situation has improved as officials have implemented numerous efforts to reduce traffic congestion.
