The airport in Delhi has three terminals for all flight services including last minute flights. Please keep in mind that some domestic flights have been relocated to Terminal 3 to allow for airport development.
Terminal 1 (domestic) is separated into two buildings, 1C for arrivals and 1D for departures, both of which are within walking distance of each other.
Terminal 2 (domestic) – low-cost airlines IndiGo and Spice Jet have flights here.
All foreign carriers including long international routes like flights to Canada use Terminal 3 (international).
It is possible to walk from Terminal 2 to Terminal 3 in under 5 minutes. Transferring between Terminals 1 and 3 necessitates traveling on National Highway 8, therefore either the free shuttle bus or a cab is required. Allow 45 minutes to an hour for the transfer.
Terminal 2 is being renovated to increase its passenger handling capacity, and Terminals 1C and 1D are being merged as part of the expansion project. They are improving the international transfer section of Terminal 3 and the luggage handling system. Other enhancements include the construction of a flyover at the Aerocity Metro Station junction to reduce travel time from Terminal 1 to Terminal 3, as well as the addition of a fourth runway.
There is a multi-level car park across from Terminal 3, as well as ground-level parking at Terminals 1 and 2. The air-conditioned Airport Metro Express Line (Orange Line) is a quick and cheap method to get to the city center. It connects the airport to the New Delhi Metro Station (opposite New Delhi Railway Station on the Ajmeri Gate side). Terminal 3 and Aerocity are the closest stations to the airport. Terminal 2 offers access to the Terminal 3 station as well.
The Delhi Metro train currently has a stop on the Magenta Line that connects to domestic Terminal 1. This line, however, is NOT part of the Delhi Metro Airport Express and does not offer the same facilities. Furthermore, luggage restrictions apply.
Every 30 minutes, the state-owned Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) operates a special air-conditioned IGI Airport Bus service between Terminal 3 and downtown Delhi (Connaught Place, New Delhi Railway Station, and Kashmere Gate Interstate Bus Terminal). The fare for this bus varies according to the distance traveled, however, the least is 27 rupees and the maximum is 106 rupees. Remember that Terminal 3 buses arrive and depart from a staging area beside the Centaur Hotel.
You just simply don’t want to miss out on your last minute flights by a fraction of a second so taxis are a more comfortable choice to report to on time to the airport. The city center would cost you roughly 400-500 rupees. App-based cabs like Uber and Ola are popular and typically less expensive than prepaid taxis.
