SGPC Disappointed With No Direct Flights Between Amritsar And Canada

A comprehensive economic cooperation aviation services pact on Canada to India flights which allows unfettered access to the other country’s airports has lately been suggested by India and Canada. The governing authority for Sikh religious issues, the SGPC, and Punjabis do not find the tidings to be good. Amritsar is still not specified in the list of destinations throughout the agreement that grants Canadian Airways connectivity to 6 Indian cities. The SGPC and Punjabis have taken specified offense to all this.

Gurcharan Singh Grewal, secretary of the SGPC and its representative, stated: “This is the prejudiced stance against Guru Nagari Amritsar.” He continued, “The Sikhs in India and overseas harbor anger. Airports are part of the deal for aircraft from several Indian cities, however, Punjabis & Sikhs have now been prejudiced by being excluded from flights to Canada from Amritsar and vice versa.

During the SGPC cabinet meeting held in March this year, a special petition requesting direct flights from Amritsar had raised and forwarded to the relevant ministry of the Indian administration; however, the government did not allocate its fair share of airlines to Punjab. He asserted that this is entirely unjust to Punjabis.

Grewal emphasized that many Punjabis reside around the world, particularly in Canada. While visiting their native province of Punjab, those folks encounter numerous difficulties. They must incur the enormous economic strain of traveling to Punjab via Delhi as well as the loss of an important moment. He further pleaded with Prime Minister Narendra Modi to provide Punjab it’s a fair proportion of Canada to India flights.

According to Sameep Singh, the worldwide coordinator of the FlyAmritsar venture, and Anantdeep Singh, his compatriot in North America, the novel binding memorandum of understanding between the 2 nations also appears to have changed the amount of Canada to India flights which can function from 35 to unlimited, although it doesn’t advantage the Canadian Punjabi society that has a substantial percentage of such airlines.

However, the amended deal now permits Canadian airlines to operate direct flights from Canada to only six important Indian metropolises. Via code-sharing between Indian airline companies, the additional cities must be indirectly accessible. The revised pact imposes restrictions on all Canadian carriers, so regardless of whether one of them wanted to run a direct trip from Canada to Amritsar, it would nevertheless be possible, the committee chair explained during the conversation.

Dhillon continued, “More than 19000 Canadian nationals and legal residents submitted an authorized appeal to the Canadian Parliament asking the authorities to support the beginning of direct flights from Canada to Amritsar previously this year. India’s civil aviation ministry, Jyotiraditya Scindia, and Canadian transport minister, Omar Alghabra, also discussed the requirement on May 4 during their discussions.

He reiterated stating that it is regrettable that perhaps the name is yet to appear on the register amid the significant petition from Canada’s million-person Punjabi population and blatant disdain for Punjabi emotions. Yet again, the Indian or Canadian governments have disregarded the long-anticipated desire and emotion of the Punjabi community in Canada.
