The months from October to March are the best because the weather is good for trips. Months from December to January are the coldest but then it mellows out to spring season till March. Summer months are from April to July and monsoon is from July to September.
You can get to Delhi by bus, train or a flight. Buses are only available if your origin is a location not more than a day’s journey from Delhi. You can go around in Delhi using metro, public and Government buses, cabs / Uber and Ola, and auto and cycle rickshaws. Delhi is connected well with 6 metro lines, which makes getting around easy. Just remember to get a Smart Card with at least Rs. 100 if you want to take multiple metros in a day.
If you plan to rent a car to get around, hire a driver as well because driving in Delhi can be very taxing. People drive roughly here so it will benefit you to get a local used to such driving and save yourself the stress.
Public and Government buses are of 2 types – red ones are air – conditioned and green ones are regular. Ask the locals (university students, especially) for which bus to take to your destination. Using Ola and Uber is convenient, because you don’t have to haggle prices. But if you are taking a taxi, auto or cycle rickshaw, bargain for lower prices or ask the taxi to go by metre.
