The baggage fees of Air Canada are pretty simple, particularly for standard bags. But you might sometimes end up paying some extra cash for overweight/oversized bags. You must pack your travel bags in a manner to avoid paying baggage fees even if you are traveling on business class seats.

Carry-On Baggage Allowance By Air Canada

Size Restrictions

  • Personal: 17 x 13 x 6 Inches (43 x 33 x 16 cm)
  • Standard: 21.5 x 15.5 x 9 Inches (55 x 40 x 23 cm)

Lap Infant Carry-On Baggage Policy

  • In case you’re traveling with an infant on your lap, then you can carry 1 additional standard bag to keep your child’s necessary items.

Stroller Check Policy

  • Small strollers of children can be checked at the baggage counter or boarding gate at certain times. The size of the stroller should be 10 inches in diameter (25.5 cm) and length 36 inches (92 cm). The dimension of the stroller should not exceed the standard size. If your strollers are checked at the baggage counter, you can pick them up at the destination’s baggage hall. While strollers that are checked at the boarding can be picked up from the aircraft door upon arrival at your destination.
  • Large strollers are checked at the baggage counter. For say, if you are traveling on cheap last minute flights Canada with an infant and large stroller, then you would need to get the stroller checked at the baggage counter.

On the other hand, checked baggage must weigh under 50 pounds (23 kg) in economy or 70 pounds (32 kg) for business class, with maximum linear dimensions of 62 linear inches (158 cm). Nonetheless, Premium Economy, Premium Rogue, and Business Class have 2 bags included at no additional cost.

If you are traveling with extra baggage, you would require to pay an additional bag fee. But you would not be charged with overweight or oversize charges. Because, as per Air Canada, the fee is charged only once if a bag is either overweight or oversize or both and you might need to pay service fees apart excluding the tax.

  • Prestige 25K: 2 checked bags are free up to 50 pounds/23 kg.
  • Elite 35K: 3 checked bags are free up to 70 pounds/32 kg.

  • Elite 75K: 3 checked bags are free up to 70 pounds/32 kg.
  • Super Elite 100Kk: 3 checked bags are free up to 70 pounds/32 kg.

Star Alliance Gold

Star Alliance Gold members can enjoy 1 free Checked Baggage on flights operated by Air Canada, Air Canada Express, and Air Canada Rouge, regardless of the airfare.

Military

Canadian and U.S. active and retired militants are eligible for 3 Checked Luggage up to 70 pounds (32 kg) each.

Prepay for Baggage With Air Canada

Well, yes, you can prepay baggage fees with Air Canada. As the airlines permit flyers to pay in advance for the baggage online or via the mobile app. But you would need to clear the luggage payment 24 hours prior to the flight departure.

Steps To Prepay Luggage Fees: –

  • Visit the Air Canada website once you are checked in; log in to your account in the booking section and add money as extra.
  • You can also go to the mobile app of Air Canada when you check in; (download the app if you do not have it) and log in to the booking section on the application to add extra/money.

Note – Passengers are allowed to prepay for baggage up to 45 minutes before departure for flights within Canada. For international flights like flights to India from Canada, you would need to prepay up to 60 minutes prior to the flight departure. In case you are based near the airport, then you can add baggage fees 12 hours before the flight departure by accessing Air Canada’s self-serve kiosks.
