Recently, Toronto Airport announced that there be will a hard limit on the number of flights to land at the airport to flatten peak-hour schedules. In regard to this new strategy, Air Canada declared that the airline is all set to cope with the new amendments by the YYZ Airport.
The restriction by the Pearson Airport majorly impacts commercial flights that can arrive or depart at any given hour along with limits on business/general aviation flights. Also, several measures will be applied to cap international passenger arrival or departing to the US via each terminal, in a given hour. But Greater Toronto Airports Authority has not yet provided particular details on the limits.
Pearson Airport Authority revealed that the new limitations set on the number of incoming and outgoing flights will help to maintain a balance between airline commercial interests & the capabilities of the entities. These boundaries will be across the entire airport ecosystem to deliver the travel demand smoothly.
Until last year in 2022, the Toronto Pearson Airport experienced a huge rush which created trouble for passengers. This resulted in disruptions, including flight delays, cancellations, and hours-long bottlenecks at security.
GTAA accused security screening staff, federal COVID-19 restrictions, limits on aircraft movements, as well as commercial airlines of this chaos. However, YYZ Airport is investigating everything at the ground level to understand the concern and design a suitable result-oriented solution to optimize the problem for the long run. Therefore, Pearson is planning to add additional staff and increase the frequency of testing and training around key areas of the baggage system.
Air Canada shares that the airline did not experience any significant changes in the flight schedule after the hard limit restriction implementation by the YYZ airport. The airline also informed that they were informed about the GTAA’s plans for these restrictions in August 2022. So Air Canada designed a new schedule for the 2023 flights in the winter season considering the YYZ limitations to avoid any complications.
The reports also disclose that Air Canada talked about the airline policy which stands for working with and alongside the industry partners to meet the requirements of airports, as well as other 3rd parties to conduct operational progress and support the air transport system in Canada. Likewise, Air Canada adapted to the new schedule based on the new guidelines or restrictions of GTAA to ensure smooth operational stability.
